1.) Talking To Tek
By Judy Amick

I originally joined this list to help my mare in her rehabbing and conditioning program, for her back. Thru the process, many different folks have shared their stories, etc, and I thought about the animal communication process. Since the rehabbing of Tek took so long, I began talking to her, as I do talk to all my horses, cats, dogs etc. Folks think you are nuts, but what do they know, right????? LOL

I had employed an animal communicator a number of years ago, and was shocked to find out the background of my mare. Neglect, abuse etc. OK...

Now, I was never sure if Tek understood me talking to her. Just thought it was my "imagination" because I wanted her to comprehend. Well, last week was the full answer to any doubts that she understands me totally.

When putting my 3 out to pasture, I rotate who goes out first. Well on that day, Tek was last going out. She gets upset when this happens, and will act out in different ways. It was windy this day, and blew the top of her dutch door shut. I got her halter, opened her stall door and she was walking in circles, upset that all others were out already. These are my exact words to her....

"You settle down. Go over there and push open your door. They are outside waiting on you, just as upset as you are, in here." As God is my witness, she walked over to the closed dutch door, pushed it open with her nose, whinnied to the other two, and walked over to me at the stall entrance, and stood totally quiet waiting for me to halter her.

I can NOT express in words the complete and total wave length I have with her. She is a serious horse.... No commaraderie, no jokes and no sense of humor. I blame this on her past history. She is "lightening" up now, and loves the praise and "good girl" statements I give her when training and working her. She is like a little kid then. You can actually "see" her delight in pleasing me. This is a completely different horse, mentally, physically, and emotionally from when I bought her 4 yrs ago. I wonder why?????? LOL~

BTW, my husband has named me.... Dr. Doolittle..... Judy-PA

2.) Finding Time For Karro
By Lalania

I don't have the storytelling abilities that some of you have, so I'll just list off some incidences with my Karro.

Just last night, I was inside the house, poring through my emails.  I suddenly thought "I should go riding."  Mind you, being a stay-at-home Mom to an 11 month old does not leave me much time for riding!  My husband was home, and the baby was asleep.  I looked outside, "too windy," I thought.  So a little while later, I went out to feed all the critters dinner.  When I went by Karro I got the overwhelming urge to go riding.  Well....the wind had died down and it was starting to cool off.  Maybe......  I finished feeding, ran inside to change and grabbed my saddle.
Karro stood like a champ while I messed with the saddle - unusual for him.  I could feel his excitement and "let's GO!"  Normally saddling is an hour long battle.  I hopped on and out we went.  We trotted and cantered up and down the street, having a great time. The sun was going down so I headed us home.  I swear, when we got back to the property, Karro didn't want to go home.  We danced around the driveway for a couple minutes before he gave in.  He was having too much fun!

***********************************************************

Last month I was feeding and Karro followed me back to the gate.  He just hung his head by me and I got, "We never spend any time together anymore."  My heart sank,  he was right.  With the baby and everything else around here, Karro had just fallen by the wayside.  I just always assumed he was enjoying his time off.
Now I make it a point to try to do something with him everyday.  I'm not always successful, and some days get skipped.  But overall, he seems to enjoy just being brought out to be brushed, etc and spend time with me.
***********************************************************

Last year, while I was still pregnant, I had a "trainer" come out to work my horses.  I use the term loosely because I now know this man is a nutcase. Anyway, I watched from the side of the house.  He was trying to get Karro to look at him with both eyes and kept snapping the leadrope.  Karro stood firm and just raised his head everytime he snapped the line.  From that far away, I got a very confused feeling and "I don't understand what you want!"
*******************************************************

So that's my horse.  I'm not at all surprised when I get a message from him.  He's my best friend and I respect him as an intelligent, sentient being.  I help him to work through his phobias, and he in turn allows me to be his friend, which is a great honor.  What more can I ask?
